Is a DIY security system as effective as professional systems?
As long as you follow the necessary steps to ensure the correct protection (we can help with this), we truly believe that The Guardfather Security System can comfortably match up to a professionally installed system.
Do I need special tools to install the system?
No special tools needed – just a drill and a screwdriver (we provide the screws and wall plugs). With those, you’ll be able to install the entire system easily and hassle free, following our step by step video guides
How long does it take to set up the system?
This depends on the size of the system, but for a standard property, you’ll usually be done and dusted within 1-2 hours
What if I have pets?
There are many options for our furry friends. Our motion sensors are pet-friendly (for pets under 35kg), so you can set the system without triggering the alarm. Alternatively, we can advise you on other options to suit your needs.
What happens if the power goes out?
The system is fitted with a backup battery that will last for at least 12 hours.
Does the system work without internet?
You will need an internet connection for the initial setup, but the system can be used without internet thereafter. However, if you expect to lose internet then adding the SIM to their cart would be a great option to keep their system running smoothly connected to the sim network.
Are there any ongoing costs or subscription fees?
Absolutely not! We offer maintenance packages after the first year, and you can opt to pay for a contract if you want your system monitored by a monitoring station. However, this is entirely your choice—the system will operate as normal regardless of whether you have a maintenance contract. If you want the back up sim there is a yearly charge due to network fees but its optional.
Can I add more devices to the system later?
Yes, you can expand your system at any time. Just visit the “Expand My System” tab in our shop to select additional items.
Are Guardfather products available in other languages available aside from English?
Yes. Our app currently has the following languages available:
- English
- Portuguese
- Chinese
- Dutch
- French
- (More implemented very soon)
What radio frequency does the Guardfather Security System use, and will it work well in my property?
The Guardfather Security System uses a secure, low-power radio protocol operating on the 868 MHz frequency band.
This falls into the low-frequency range, which typically provides better range and wall penetration than higher-frequency signals like Wi-Fi. It’s specifically designed to be reliable in residential and commercial environments, even where Wi-Fi performance may be weak.
Because it’s not reliant on your property’s Wi-Fi for device communication, you can expect strong, stable performance — even in larger properties or homes with thick walls.
